Jackpot! - LaBelle of the Ball
My boss made his wife a World Cup widow and his children World Cup orphans long before the World Cup started. Day after day, night after night, he'd be at his computer, clicking Refresh on the tickets page because, at odd times like 11:19 pm, tickets would suddenly become available, but only for about 2 minutes.

Such is the way with Tom Ford's collection of extremely limited edition make-up for Estee Lauder. Permanently sold out in the couple of shops and website it was available on, rumours were abound that another small run was being done. In half an hour between refreshes it had become available online, and most items had sold out again already. So in I went with credit card aloft, for 2 eye duos, 2 lipsticks and an SPF lip conditioner. I also have my eye on the face glow that someone is selling on ebay.

I absolutely love buying make-up, but it all depends on the packaging. I want packaging that looks and feels special, elegant, luxurious - golds and turquoises and colours that remind me of hot summer holidays in southern Italy. Even in winter. I want creamy lipsticks and silky eyeshadows. I love the way make-up can make you feel special without having to hold up a bank to pay for it, the way you can feel swathed in all-over luxury by wearing it with a £4.50 top from La Redoute and a pair of shoes for a fiver from ebay.

Hmmmm. I really want a proper straw sunhat now, and to whisk myself off to the Amalfi coast.

Hoorah! Someone else who feels the way I do about make-up! I'm prepared to spend lots of money on the essentials, particularly when it comes to my face because I have such sensitive skin. This is why I love Estee Lauder Eight Hour Cream (as well as the smell-it reminds me of roses) and will only ever wear Yves Saint Laurent Touché Eclat, face powder and their stunning mascara. Ok, so it's a lot of money but it's worth it in the end because I look and feel so much better about myself in the long run.

You'll love Dr Hauschka's Rose Day Cream then. I also live by Touche Eclat, but found the mascara didn't separate my lashes - I'm using the new Bourjois stuff I can't pronounce. Mascara is the one thing I find hard to get as I want - I need length AND separation AND volume AND extreme curl (I have the flattest eyelashes known to man). I've tried pretty much every mascara there is and was quite surprised that my favourite is about half the price of others! Chantecaille lipsticks are the most creamy and moisturising (I have very dry lips), although Chanel's new formula is much better than before. I find it difficult to find eyeshadows that don't crease within an hour.

I'm going to try the MAC hyper real foundation and their loose powder when I run out of my current stuff (Chantecaille). I'm getting sick of paying top whack for stuff when I might be able to get equal quality for much less. Plus I love MAC's array of eyeshadows. It brightens my day walking in there to that display.

I used to spend wads on Creme de la Mer, but found that the absolute best moisturiser for my dry skin, keeps me hydrated ALL day, is Clinique's Super Defense.

Clinique are excellent if you suffer from really dry skin. I find I need a LOT of moisture because of my eczema. I like using Lush's Dream Cream as an all-over moisturiser because it's so gentle. Plus it's only £8 for a huge tub which lasts ages so is really good value. Clinique have a face foundation/powder thing which is great as well, although I found it ran out really quickly when I used it.

I use Chantecaille foundation - it's £49 for a pot(!) and has lasted me a month tops. Even if MAC only lasts a month, at least I'll get 2 1/2 months for the price of 1.
